An homage to our favourite utensil, the humble spoon. Plus an activity!

“All my friends sat down. The Hetilyeh (rice & milk pudding) stood between them. They wanted to eat but, “WAIT, do not eat with your hands, we HAVE spoons!" I handed all spoons for them, they started eating. No spoons were left, so I used the soup ladle and start eating with them!”

Dear readers,

You must wonder about the emphasis on spoons, and we invite you on this journey of exhibiting spoons. Tell us more about the reasons for the emphasis Jabra made on the spoons? Remember this was written around the 1930's things were different back then. Ever wondered when humans start using spoons? What were the first spoons made from? What about chopsticks, did they come before the spoons? Does everyone in the globe prefer using spoons? Ever tried eating by hand? Do you know anyone from your community who uses different kinds of cutleries, or their hands to eat? It would be nice to have a look at the brief history of spoons.

Tell us about your favourite spoons? Are they big or small? Round or pointy? Did your grandparents collect spoons from different countries? Did your mom hide fancy cutlery away and never allowed you to use it? What is the nicest design you've ever seen in a spoon?

We are sharing with you our best spoons, the spoons that we always used to eat when were young, some of us throw a fight with their siblings about those spoons, other got them as a birthday gift, while some of us always wanted to eat using the fancy spoons often only used by guests and managed to sneak one of them for personal use!

Here are some of our favourite spoons:

For younger audiences, we invite you to use this printable spoon image. You can design or colour it, and cut it and create a collage with it, next to your favourite meal!
